A safe harbour for growing success
MAN is one of the leading manufacturers of diesel engines for marine and power plant applications, supplying around 24,000 megawatts of total engine power per year. Ever since Rudolf Diesel built his first engine in our factory in Augsburg, Germany, over a hundred years ago, we have translated our technological advances into power for our customers around the world and in Peru. Today, our diesel engines are fitted in every second fishing vessel in Peru.

The harbour of Lima is one of the most important fishing and commercial ports in the whole of South America, while the Peruvian Pacific is one of the few well-stocked fishing grounds remaining in the world. We recognised the economic importance of the fishing industry early on. In the 1970s we sold 40 MAN diesel engines for use in the Peruvian fishing fleet. To date we have provided our customers with a total engine power of just under 140,000hp.

Our service offers customers a safe harbour – with our own consignment warehouse storing MAN marine engines and gears as well as relevant spare parts. This allows us to fit MAN engines
and carry out maintenance and repairs immediately on site. Our technical service, which includes delivery of spare parts and maintenance, also extends beyond the borders of Peru – to Chile, Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela.

For example, we supplied and fitted powerful engines in three fishing ships with a hold capacity of 400m3 each for our customer Tecnológica de Alimentos S. A. (TASA). What was special about this was the fact that ships of this size set a new benchmark for the fishing industry in Peru. Thanks to the smooth production and delivery in record time, TASA has placed another order with us – for an even bigger ship with a 500m3 hold.

As well as the marine sector, it is also full steam ahead for us in the energy sector. Peru’s economic growth is also fuelling a growing energy demand. We supply our customers with powerful
engines for both diesel and environmentally friendly gas power plants. We also supply a wide range of innovative engines for electricity and heat generation. We not only supply the engines for
this but also provide our customers with complete end-to-end solutions – from engineering to installation through to after sales service for complete power plants ranging from zero to 280MW.
